Perjury is knowingly making a false statement under oath, affirmation or declaration. It includes making false representations to courts and tribunals, as well as on written documents. These include statutory declarations and sworn statements.
The courts regard perjury as a serious offence. It can carry a penalty of up to 15 years’ imprisonment.
